What is Arts Integration?
“Arts integration is an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. Students engage in a creative process which connects an art form and another subject area and meets evolving objectives in both.”

Our school’s arts-integrated curriculum is the result of a collaborative approach to planning that involves classroom teachers and the arts specialist team. Our approach to arts integration brings together learning objectives of two or more disciplines, including the arts. Students construct and demonstrate understanding through the art form, while gaining a deep appreciation for the expressive and communicative qualities of the arts and their role in society.
Arts Integration in Action!
Through Dance and ELA instruction, investigation and collaboration, students will be able to create a weight-sharing shape that represents a conflict from Island of the Blue Dolphins.

Through History and Visual Arts instruction, the 6th-grade students created a series of artworks that were personal responses based upon the ancient artifacts from their ancient civilization curriculum.

3rd-grade student’s explored the issues faced by our native animal populations and designed shadow puppets to present their learnings. They were introduced to the shadow puppetry art form by visiting artist Christine Marie who worked with them on strategies and approaches for their puppet design and their performances.
